Today we learned comparative words like smaller, happier, and uglier and we use them when comparing two things.  We also learned about superlative words.  The “est” ending is used when you are comparing three or more things.  So we created words like smallest, happiest, and ugliest.  We took tests in math and health.  We all studied so we were prepared.

Yesterday we reviewed what we had learned about sleep and the risks you take when you don’t get enough.  The risks are that you could get heart disease, not grow as much, not be able to concentrate at school, and be very cranky.   We also reviewed that we should sleep 10 to 11 hours a night.  We still think it is funny that a lion sleeps 20 hours and only gets 4 hours to catch its prey.  It must be a good hunter.

Today we learned that we are going on three field trips.  They are called Project Wet, Archaeology Dig, and the Old Schoolhouse. We are also having a test in health/science on Thursday.  We had to write down what we thought were the most important things we learned about sleep, exercise, and nutrition.   We have flashcards to study from.

Today we figured out that the spelling words all have either an “er” or “est” ending.  For some of the words you are to double the consonant and then add the ending.  For the words that end in y you drop the y and add an i and then the ending.  For some of the words you do not change anything in the base word you just at the ending, and for some of the words you drop the e and then add the ending.  In grammmar we learned what an imperative (command) sentence was and what an exclamatory (with feeling) sentence was.  We also reviewed what the ending punctuation was for both of these kinds of sentences.

Today we learned about sleep.  For example we learned that kids need 10-11 hours  a day.  A giraffe sleeps only 30 minutes a day. It actually takes six 5-minute naps a day.  We all thought that was funny.  Now we know why the giraffes are always awake when you go to the zoo.  We also foung out that a lion needs 20 hours per day.  Which means it is only awake for 4 hours a day.  A koala and a sloth also sleep 20 hours a day.  We also found out that if you don’t get enough sleep, you won’t be albe to think right.

We learned how to do “Show Don’t Tell in writing.  For instance, instead of writing the girl was mad,  you should write, The girl was red faced, clenching her fists and shouting “Ugh”.  Also, we learned to add a sum or differince in a grid form. We prefer to not use the grid.  We also learned to round to estimate.

Today we learned that sometimes you must double the consonant when adding an ending to a word.  For instance, if you want to put an ed ending on the word stop, you must double the consonant and then add the ed ending (stopped).    We also  learned how to prevent type 2 diabetes.  Here are 4 ways: eat good foods- ( whole grain, lowfat), limit fast food and sugary drinks, excercise, and if you have questions, ask your doctor.
